- Coffee quantity or measurement
- Use at least the minimum coffee quantity in the reviewed brewing chart, measured with an actual measuring tablespoon.
- Sediment in the perk well
- Clean the coffee maker using the reviewed periodic cleaning instructions. Sediment in the perk well can impair perking.
- Stuck perk-tube washer
- Check that the washer on the bottom of the perk tube moves freely. Clean it with a brush if it is stuck.
- Perk-tube washer position
- Make sure that the perk-tube washer is positioned on top of the perk well in the bottom of the pot.
- Consecutive pots
- Always rinse out the coffee maker with cold water before making consecutive pots.
Coffee maker does not make coffee2 checks
- Perk-tube washer does not move freely
- Before use, check that the washer on the bottom of the perk tube is clean and moves freely. Clean it with a brush if it does not move freely.
- Perk tube is not properly seated in the perk well
- Place the perk tube in the perk well, the indentation in the centre of the coffee maker base. Hold the tube in place while slipping the filled, lidded basket onto it.

- Remove and replace the lid carefully.
- Removing the lid during brewing can cause scalding.
- Use extreme caution when moving the coffee maker containing hot liquids.
- Unplug when not in use and before cleaning.
- Allow the appliance to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
- Do not use the appliance outdoors.
- Use the appliance only for its intended purpose.

Important cord information
Instructions from the manualPower cord and extension-cord precautions5 steps
- The supplied short, detachable cord reduces the risk of entanglement or tripping.
- An extension cord may be used only with proper care.
- If using an extension cord, its marked electrical rating must be at least as great as the appliance rating.
- Arrange it so that it does not drape over a counter or table where children could pull it or someone could trip over it.
- Connect the power cord only to a 120 V AC electrical outlet.
How to use
Instructions from the manualBefore first use6 steps
- Read the instructions and become familiar with the parts in Figure A before use.
- Before first use, wash the basket assembly, cover and inside of the coffee maker with warm, soapy water, keeping the base and plug receptacle dry.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- The perk tube, basket and basket lid may also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
- Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or other liquid.
- Keep the plug receptacle dry; if you notice moisture, dry it thoroughly before use.
Making percolator coffee31 steps
- Fill with fresh, cold water to the desired level.
- The fill indicator is inside the body on the handle side; its numbers show cups brewed, each approximately 5 ounces.
- Make at least two cups for best flavour.
- Before consecutive pots, rinse out the coffee maker with cold water; making coffee in a warm unit may give weak coffee.
- For best clarity and flavour, use one of the included disposable wraparound filters, found in the top filler of the carton.
- Additional wraparound filters are available in grocery stores and online, including Brew Rite wraparound-style and Melitta wrap filters.
- A 3-inch disc-style coffee filter is also compatible.
- These named brands are not affiliated with Presto.
- Place the filter centre hole over the basket stem.
- Add regular or percolator-grind coffee to the basket.
- Cover the basket stem with a finger while adding grounds to keep them from falling through.
- Fold the wraparound filter corner holes onto the basket stem to cover the coffee, and tuck excess paper into the basket, as shown in Figure B.
- Adjust the suggested dose to your preference: 2 cups, 2–3 tablespoons; 4 cups, 3–7 tablespoons; 6 cups, 5–8 tablespoons.
- Each brewed cup is approximately 5 ounces; 4 tablespoons equal ¼ cup.
- For a bolder brew, use 9 tablespoons with 25 ounces of water.
- Fill between the 4- and 6-cup marks to make 5 cups.
- Before each use, check that the washer on the bottom of the perk tube is clean and moves freely.
- If it does not move freely, clean it with a brush.
- Cover the basket with its lid.
- Place the perk tube in the perk well, the indentation in the centre of the coffee maker base.
- Hold the tube in place and slip the filled basket onto it.
- If the washer does not move freely or the tube is not properly seated in the well, coffee may not be made or may be weak.
- Place the cover on the coffee maker and push it down firmly.
- Connect the cord to the coffee maker, then to a standard 120 V AC wall outlet.
- Never plug it in without water or liquid coffee inside.
- The signal light comes on automatically when coffee is ready.
- Avoid hot surfaces: the parts, grounds and coffee may be hot and can scald.
- Coffee stays hot while the coffee maker remains plugged in.
- Disconnect the cord from the electrical outlet first, then from the coffee maker.
- Parts, grounds and remaining coffee may still be hot.
- To prevent burns, allow the unit to cool before washing.

- Do not use a disposable filter for this cleaning.
- Once the signal light comes on, leave the coffee maker plugged in for 15–20 minutes.
- Unplug the coffee maker, pour out the cleaning solution, and rinse the inside and parts with running water.
- Fill with fresh water to the 12 mark and perk again.
- Pour out the water, then thoroughly rinse the inside and parts.
