Needle, thread, fabric

Instructions from the manual
Needle, Thread, Fabric10 steps
  1. Replace worn needles regularly; a perfect point is needed for good stitching.
  2. In general, use finer needles for thinner fabric: sizes 70/75 for lightweight, 80/90 for medium and 100/110 for heavy fabrics.
  3. Needles illustrated in the manual can be standard or optional accessories.
  4. The thread should fit the needle’s long groove and pass easily through its eye.
  5. Too much play can cause breaks or skipped stitches; fraying against the groove edges or poor eye guidance can cause breaks and jams.
  6. In the manual’s 130/705 H-S/70 example, 130 identifies shank length, 705 the flat shank, H the scarf, S the medium ball point and 70 the 0.7 mm needle size.
  7. Use quality thread and fabric.
  8. Cotton thread suits cotton fabric; mercerized cotton has a sheen that remains after washing.
  9. Polyester has high tensile strength and colorfastness and is flexible for strong elastic seams.
  10. Rayon is made from natural fibers, has a brilliant sheen and suits decorative stitches.
