Important information for choosing your paper

Instructions from the manual
Important information for choosing your paper7 steps
  1. Before buying a large quantity, confirm the packaging says the paper is suitable for laser printers.
  2. The manual recommends 75–90 g/m² (20–24 lb), though the printer accepts thinner or thicker paper within its media limits.
  3. Choose long grain because short grain is too weak for the carriage, and neutralized paper rather than acid paper, including when choosing recycled stock.
  4. An acid-paper check pen can distinguish these.
  5. Follow the package indication for the print side; usually it is the opening side of the ream and may be marked with an arrow.
  6. Paper normally contains about 5% water by weight and can reach about 10% in high humidity, impairing toner fixing.
  7. The manual recommends 50–60% humidity for paper storage and use.

  3. Edit the host BOOTP configuration, usually /etc/bootptab, with the printer name, Ethernet network type, Ethernet address, IP address, subnet mask and gateway using that system’s documented syntax/templates.
  4. Some BOOTP hosts require a download filename: create a null host file and supply its path if required.
  5. The printer loads its address from BOOTP when switched on.

Using rarp to configure the ip address

Instructions from the manual
Using RARP to configure the IP address4 steps
  1. For advanced administrators using the historical UNIX environment, put the print-server Ethernet address and name in /etc/ethers, creating the file if needed; use the same name in /etc/hosts.

  3. The computer and printer must be on the same Ethernet segment with no intervening router; otherwise use BOOTP or another reviewed method.
  4. If automatic allocation already supplies an address, ARP is unnecessary.
  5. ARP assignment works only once; later changes require the browser, TELNET SET IP ADDRESS, or a factory reset before ARP can be reused.
  6. Verify connection by pinging the configured printer IP address.

Using the telnet console to configure the ip address
